FAQ

Q: How long is the commitment as an LBFE volunteer?
A:
We hope to build a long-term relationship with our volunteers, but we only require 5 hours a year to be considered an active volunteer. You can give this time all at once or during a few different events or activities we’re very flexible.

Q: How old do you have to be to volunteer?
A:
All ages are welcome, but you have to be 18 to volunteer independently. Children regularly volunteer alongside parents or with school groups, and there are many opportunities for older adults, too.

Q: What does it take to become a volunteer?
A: You’ll need to attend an orientation and complete a background check to get started.

Q: Can I volunteer near my own neighborhood?
A: Yes! LBFE serves 1,200 elders across Chicago and NW Indiana.
