Social media/public relations internship description + application

Ideal majors or areas of interest include: Journalism, Mass Communication, Marketing, Public Relations; undergraduate junior or senior or graduate student is preferred.

Supervisor: Writer
Time commitment: Minimum of 8 to 10 hours per week for three months (minimum requirement); depending on class schedule, LBFE may be able to accommodate more hours

Skills required

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated creativity with various social media platforms (predominantly Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn)
  • Ability to quickly understand and adapt to Little Brothers’ tone and content
  • Excellent research skills and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong writing and communication skills, as well as attention to grammar
  • Curiosity and ability to ask questions that can lead to a conversation
  • Interest in photography is a plus, as intern will have opportunities to photograph elders and volunteers, depending on internship schedule

Major duties and responsibilities

  • Work closely with the entire Development Team, especially writer, to refine and develop Social Media Plan and respond to unique social media needs on a weekly basis
  • Choose one specialized project/focus during your internship (for example, gaining an acute understanding of LinkedIn while growing the platform’s presence and connections)
  • Raise awareness of, maintain, and develop social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn)
  • Create a variety of engaging content for social media sites in close collaboration with writer
  • Will work toward confident ownership over content creation by developing creativity and sound judgement, proposing potential posts, and devising and revising drafts accordingly 
  • Take pictures at LBFE events for sharing on social media
  • Assist with posting and maintaining Flickr galleries
  • Research and implement ways to broaden LBFE’s social media presence, build “brand” image, engage donors, volunteers, community partners and public at large

  • Analysis/problem solving: student will be able to strategically research, analyze and develop solutions
